As a young jazz trumpet player and keyboardist, Matt Heilmann has already spent fifteen years of his life studying and performing music. Matt is a rising junior in Michigan State University’s renowned straight-ahead Jazz Studies program, under the direction of bassist Rodney Whitaker. Matt recieves trumpet instruction (and style advice) from Etienne Charles. While at home, he finds mentorship from Milwaukee’s own Neil Davis. Already blessed with a world-class faculty at school, Matt has also had the oppourtunity to perform with artists such as Ron Carter, Marquis Hill, Brian Lynch, Michael Philip Mossman, Russell Malone, Rufus Reid, Conrad Herwig, Harvey Mason, Steve Wilson, and Carl Allen, among others.
